Burkini Swimwear for Aussie - next Ramadan

Herald Sun, September 23, 2010 12:00AM

A PLAN to force families to cover up to avoid offending Muslims at a public pool has triggered furious debate.

An overwhelming 94 per cent of Herald Sun readers disagree with the legal ruling approving the contentious ban during next year's Ramadan.

VCAT has approved a ban on uncovered shoulders and thighs for a community event to be held at the Dandenong Oasis, a municipal pool.

"Participants aged 10 and over must ensure their bodies are covered from waist to knee and the entire torso extending to the upper arms," a request by Dandenong City Council and the YMCA states in an exemption application to the Equal Opportunities Act.

A Misunderstander of Islam, eh? No. Everything this Muslim cleric says is based on the Qur'an and Islamic law. "Friday Sermon in Gaza: Muslims Should Wage Jihad to Liberate the Al-Aqsa Mosque from the Filth of the Jews, the Brothers of Apes and Pigs," from MEMRITV, July 16 (thanks to all who sent this in):

Following are excerpts from a Gaza Friday sermon, which aired on Al-Aqsa TV on July 16, 2010:

Preacher: Dearly beloved, the Al-Aqsa Mosque is subjected to a vicious campaign of Judaization and defilement, at the hands of the filthiest creatures made by Allah - the Jews.

MOGADISHU: Somali Islamist militants killed two people and arrested dozens of others for breaking a ban on watching the World Cup on television, residents said.

They said the masked fighters from the Hizbul Islam group raided houses on Sunday and Monday in the Afgoi district, 30 km (19 miles) south of the capital Mogadishu, after hard-line Islamist groups banned Somalis from watching the tournament. "Hizbul Islam killed two people and arrested 35 others, all World Cup fans," Ali Yasin Gedi, vice-chairman of the Elman rights group, told Reuters on Tuesday. "Islamists unexpectedly entered houses in Afgoi district and then fired (at) some people who tried to jump over the wall to escape" he added. Hizbul Islam and another group, al Shabaab, which is widely seen as Al-Qaeda's proxy in the region, control large swathes of the country and much of the capital.
