A PLAN to force families to cover up to avoid offending Muslims at a public pool has triggered furious debate.
An overwhelming 94 per cent of Herald Sun readers disagree with the legal ruling approving the contentious ban during next year's Ramadan.
VCAT has approved a ban on uncovered shoulders and thighs for a community event to be held at the Dandenong Oasis, a municipal pool.
"Participants aged 10 and over must ensure their bodies are covered from waist to knee and the entire torso extending to the upper arms," a request by Dandenong City Council and the YMCA states in an exemption application to the Equal Opportunities Act.

Ground Zero Mosque symbolizing Islamic Victory over Infidels
Throughout history, Muslim conquerors have demonstrated their hatred and disdain for all other religions by purposefully erecting mosques over some of the most sacred and hallowed places of Judaic and Christian worship.
The al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem is built on top of one of the holiest sites in Judaism, the Temple Mount. The Hagia Sofia, once the world’s largest cathedral and orthodox patriarchal basilica until its capture in 1453, was the principal mosque of Istanbul for over 450 years. During the Muslim conquest of medieval Spain, the Christian church in Cordoba was captured and converted into the central mosque of the Umayyad Caliphate. Muslims have engaged in this practice for centuries, symbolizing their victories over the infidels.
Today, in New York City, Muslim leaders are plotting to build a mega-mosque near the site of the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center, where over three thousand Americans were callously murdered by Islamic jihadists. The site of the Twin Towers has become the most hallowed ground in United States history since Pearl Harbor.
The Center for Security Policy has released a video with a chilling reminder that history repeats itself.

Malaysia Orang Asli forced to convert to Islam
Indigenous groups in Malaysia are accusing the government of using religion as a condition for development aid.
The ethnic tribes say infrastructure is offered to them if they abandon their animistic ways and embrace Islam - a claim the government rejects.
Al Jazeera’s Gerald Tan spoke to tribes in the central peninsular Malaysian state of Pahang.

GUA MUSANG, Sept 17 — An Orang Asli church under construction in the Kelantan interior is at risk of being torn down by the local land office.
Temiar Christians in Pos Pasik, an Orang Asli village some 70km northeast of here, were earlier this month ordered by the Department of Orang Asli Affairs (JHEOA) to halt work on their concrete church house, its pastor, Moses Soo told The Malaysian Insider today.
The JHEOA had written a letter dated August 9 to the village chief, Setmen Bin Belungei, informing the latter his “application to build a church has not been approved”, Soo related.
A copy of the letter was made available to The Malaysian Insider. No reason was given for the rejection.

“It’s not the first time they’ve done this. The first time was in Kampung Jias, near Gua Musang,” said the Raub-based Christian evangelist, representing an inter-denominational group called Gospel to the Poor.

Iman Faisal Raul of Ground Zero Mosque
Meet this islamist Imam Faisal Rauf.
Imam Faisal said USA was reponsible for 911
Who is Imam Feisal A. Rauf?
Could Imam Feisal A. Rauf be a moderate Muslim? Answer is a BIG NO! An Imam is who has read and believe in Quran and Sunnah (Prophetic traditions) in its entirety. Quran and Sunnah are 100% anti-women, anti-non-muslims and anti-all un-believers and 100% intolerant and violent; hence, anybody who read Quran and Sunnah can never be a moderate Muslim, period.
The real difference between Imam Anwar al- Awlaki and Imam Feisal Rauf is: Imam al-Awlaki engaged in violent jihad (like OBL’s al-Qaeda) and Imam Feisal is engaged in “Stealth Jihad”. But they both are fighting for the cause of Allah only to bring America under the fold of Islam—only religion accepted by Allah.
Before the CNN interview with Soledad O’Brien, Imam Rauf was interviewed by Hind Bashandy for Radio Hurytna in Egypt. The charlatan Imam’s double talk exposed him as a clear apologist of Islamic terrorism as you can see in the following conversation.
Hind asked the Imam, “Why Muslims hate America, and I ask the opposite question, why do Americans see us as terrorists or suspicious or they see that we are all Bin-Ladens”.
Rauf replied, “The main thing to every nation is national security. When there is a threat, the most important issue is national security, especially to the public. We also in the Muslim world, if anything happens in every country like what happened in Germany or any Muslim country, also in Egypt or any Muslim country like Saudi Arabia for example, it would be important to them of course. If something happens in Egypt for example the Copts or with religious minorities who have the same faith as the Christians in America, it makes them care, they are of the same faith. What happens from terrorist actions, it causes a national security threat, a threat to them as a community of Americans and Christians. The same with us, when Palestinians are under pressure or attacked we care as Arabs, we feel that we care, we feel attacked as Arabs and Muslims. This is natural. To any community. If something happened to the Bashandy family, aren’t you a Bashandi Hind? [Hind smiles]”
Feisal Abdul Rauf has not convinced anybody that he is a so called moderate Muslim.
In his interviews with CNN’s Soledad O’Brien and also with Hind Bashandy for Radio Hurytna in Egypt—his sly oratory indicated he was slinkier than a cunning fox.
He was no sheep; he is rather a coyote in a sheep’s clothing.
The Imam brought the bogeyman of radical jihadists in his argument against moving the Ground Zero Mosque.
Imam Feisal in his 2001 Sixty Minutes interview said bluntly, the USA was partly or in some case directly responsible for the 9-11 attack. Readers can listen him in this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHKV9GbjFko
Did he show any indication that he deviated from his past thinking?
Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf is out and out a dishonest person. And, of course, he is anything but a moderate Muslim.
Truth is: Imam Rauf is a dedicated “Stealth Jihadist” who is promoting and helping Islamic jihadists agenda in the U.S.

More Muslims Speak Out Against Ground Zero Mosque
Posted by J. Michael Waller Aug 24th 2010 at 6:59 am
Muslims across the U.S. and around the world are speaking out against building an Islamic center and mosque near the mass murder site at Ground Zero in lower Manhattan.
Many Muslim voices are echoing conservative critics of the Cordoba Initiative’s attempt to build the 13-story facility just 600 feet from where the twin towers of the World Trade Center once stood.
Their statements show the emptiness of a handful of Arab and Muslim Republican activists who, in a well-publicized letter defending the Ground Zero mosque, purported to speak for the interests of “the Arab and Muslim community in America.” They also eviscerate claims that critics of the project are motivated by prejudice and hatred toward Muslims.
Even before the six GOP Muslim and Arab-American activists signed the August 17 letter, Muslims in the U.S. and abroad were criticizing Imam Feisal Rauf and his $100 million Cordoba Initiative project.
Some Muslims called the mosque plan a deliberate provocation, a political gesture to thumb one’s nose at the “infidel,” and equivalent to building a Christian church where Serbian troops slaughtered 6,000 Muslim men and boys in Srebrenica, Kosovo.
“American Muslims who support the proposed mosque and Islamic center near ground zero are facing skeptics within their own faith – those who argue that the project is insensitive to Sept. 11 victims and needlessly provocative at a time when Muslims are pressing for wider acceptance in the U.S.,” the Associated Press reported.

Why Kota Gelanggi (lost city) touted as earliest civilization in Malay Peninsula news were banned as they were Buddhist.
The Johor find of 2005 which was quietly dropped was none other than Kota Gelanggi lost city reflecting Srivijaya and its Buddhist splendour. But they deliberately disregarded it because that would have sidelined Malacca Empire and Islam which was smaller and came some 500 years later.

I met Dr Lee Kam Hing, a former History prof at MU in Singapore recently at a seminar.
Dr Lee, who is now Star research director, told me he was trying his best to highlight Kota Gelanggi, but that the government killed it off.

Rapper Namewee report to Police
http://www.aizuddindanian.com/voi/2010/09/the-namewee-video-what-khairy.html
Controversial songwriter and film-maker Wee Meng Chee was questioned by the police for three hours tonight over his latest controversial video 'Nah!'
Wee also said he believes he has done nothing wrong.
'I support 1Malaysia'
"I'm a film director, artist and musician, but it doesn't mean that if there is something wrong, I keep quiet.
"It doesn't mean I'm anti-Malaysia. I am against racism. And I support 1Malaysia. If I see racism, I'll say it out loud. I love my country," he said.
Coming out of the police station at 12.25am, Wee told reporters that the police officers with him merely listened to his side of the story and took his statement.
"I explained everything to them already, and I think everything is okay now. They just listened to me.
Asked whether he was warned at all against stirring up any more controversy, Wee answered in the negative: "They didn't give me any warning. They just took my statement. Everything seems fine."

Namewee has united Malaysian against racism
COMMENT If Namewee (Wee Meng Chee) is prosecuted for his music-video, then two mixed messages are being sent out by the government:
The first is that the authorities practise double-standards.
The second is that it was only because of Namewee's 'intervention' that the government sat up and took racism seriously.
http://www.malaysianmirror.com/media-buzz-detail/41-opinion/49122-namewee-is-a-uniting-factor
On Wednesday, it was reported that the rapper was being investigated by the police for sedition. Various ministers and a menteri besar also want Namewee punished for his controversial video.
In the first place, Namewee made this clip because of the government's slow response to tackle effectively the latest racist incident. It appears that we are now united, against racism.

A Ramadan reflection: Who do we fast for?
By Marina Mahathir
IT so happened that this Ramadan I had to take an 18-hour flight to Vancouver to attend the wedding of a close friend’s only daughter.
I wouldn’t normally choose to travel during Ramadan but it was a rare opportunity to see my friend’s happiness as she saw her daughter married off.
I did tell a few friends I was going but still, there were several text messages and emails I received during my trip that I had to reply by saying that I was away in Canada. Back came the quick query: how is fasting in Vancouver?
Ordinarily, I suppose fasting in Vancouver would be pretty routine. But I had traveled a long way to attend one event and then pretty much turned around to fly home again. As far as I knew from the Quran, this exempted me from fasting.
In the Surah Al-Baqarah verse 185, God says, “It was the month of Ramadan in which the Qur’an was [first] bestowed from on high as a guidance unto man and a self-evident proof of that guidance, and as the standard by which to discern the true from the false. Hence, whoever of you lives to see this month shall fast throughout it; but he that is ill, or on a journey, [shall fast instead for the same] number of other days. God wills that you shall have ease, and does not will you to suffer hardship.”

Ramadan full of Toxins
Wednesday September 1, 2010
Disturbed in heart and mind
By Marina Mahathir
IT’S very strange, but as we enter our 54th year of independence, what I least feel is independent. It so happened that I had to travel far recently, to a land where the air was a lot cleaner.
I felt that I breathed a lot easier but I don’t think it was just the air. Once you get away, the air just feels so much less toxic.
Indeed, in the month of Ramadan – the month of reflection and restraint – we find instead more toxicity than ever.
From school principals who spout racist nastiness to politicians and media who insist on poisoning what is already a poisoned well.
Instead of the serenity one hopes to feel at this time, in order to feel closer to God, all I can feel is the disturbance in the heart and mind that comes from living in an environment of hate.

Sunni suicide bomber kills 53 at Shiite rally in Pakistan
Posted: 03 September 2010 1825
QUETTA, Pakistan: At least 53 people were killed and 197 wounded on Friday in a suicide bombing targeting a Shiite Muslim rally in the southwestern city of Quetta, police said.
The bomber was among the 450-strong crowd and detonated on reaching the main square in the city, according to police.
The explosion triggered chaotic scenes, with an angry mob starting fires and shooting into the air while others fled or lay on the ground to avoid the gunfire, they added.
"According to the reports collected from hospitals, 53 people have been killed and 197 have been injured," Sardar Khan, chief of Quetta's police control room, told AFP by telephone.
It was the latest in a string of apparent sectarian attacks, after three suicide bombers killed 31 people and wounded hundreds more on Wednesday at a Shiite mourning procession in the eastern city of Lahore.

Where is the spirit of Ramadan?
The parade of “Muslim sensitivities”: Where is it taking us?
Shape of a Pocket by Jacqueline Ann Surin 20 August 2010
AND so Perkasa has made the news again. And this time by its own doing, not because a media bent on sensationalism tried to cultivate the Malay nationalist group in order to increase readership.
Church plays are seditious and insulting?
In the latest of Perkasa moves, its Petaling chairperson, Zainal Abidin Ahmad, lodged a police report against a Protestant church in Shah Alam and its pastor for planning to stage a Christian play during Ramadan. “We want the church and pastor to be investigated for sedition and for insulting the Sultan,” Zainal Abidin told The Malaysian Insider on 17 Aug 2010. Zainal Abidin also accused the church of deliberately attempting to preach Christianity to Muslims in Muslim-majority Shah Alam.
We may be lulled into thinking that the issue at hand is limited to a Malay, and hence Muslim, rights group making wild and curious allegations against non-Muslim, non-Malay Malaysians. If only that were the case. Unfortunately, much more is involved. Indeed, what is really at stake is the control of public space and what it means for all of us.
